LMC Delay 3SC’s Relegation, Order Disrupted Gombe Vs Wikki Replayed

The League Management Company (LMC) have rescinded their earlier decision that Shooting Stars have been relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League, LMC stated on their verified Twitter handle  on Monday . On Saturday , the LMC announced 3SC as one of the four teams (alongside Remo, Gombe and ABS) relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) following their 2-0 away defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja on the final day of the season. 3SC’s relegation was confirmed after it was reported that another team fighting relegation Wikki Tourists pipped Gombe United 1-0 in Gombe. But reports later emanated that the game between Gombe and Wikki was abandoned due to crowd trouble. Following the development, LMC have now come out to state that until the match report of the game between Gombe United and Wikki Tourists is available, the fourth team that will join Remo, ABS and Gombe (Wikki and 3SC) in the lower division is yet to be decided. WAFU Cup: Mali Ease Past Mauritania, Nigeria Set For Sierra Leone

Mali defeated Mauritania 3-1 in the first game of matchday three knockout fixtures of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Nations Cup in Cape Coast, Ghana on Tuesday. The win means Mali have qualified for the group stage of the WAFU Cup. Mali took the lead in the 29th minute but were pegged back following Samba Chiekh’s equaliser for Mauritania in the 36th minute. But a brace from Moussa Kone in the 88th and 91st minutes ensured Mali joined Ghana, Senegal, Niger Republic and Guinea in the group stage. The second game of matchday three will see the home-based Super Eagles take on Sierra Leone.

WAFU Cup: Okoro, Peter Fire Nigeria Past S/Leone Into Group Stages

The home-based Super Eagles edged Sierra Leone in a hard-fought 2-0 win in their knockout fixture of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Cape Coast, Ghana on Monday night. Two late goals from Rangers’ Osas Okoro and substitute Moses Peter of Plateau United sealed the win for Nigeria. In a keenly contested game, the home-based Eagles eventually broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute through Okoro who bent a lovely free-kick over the Sierra Leonian defensive wall to make it 1-0. And in the 87th minute, Peter drilled home his effort off the the post to double Nigeria’s lead. The win means Nigeria have now qualified for the group stage proper of the WAFU Cup where they will face hosts Ghana, Mali and Guinea in Group A. Their first game of the group is against Ghana on Thursday. The last set of knockout fixtures comes up on Tuesday with Cote d ‘Ivoire facing Togo while Cape Verde and Benin Republic will square off.

Iheanacho Scores In Leicester U-23s Win Over West Ham

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored his forst goal in Leicester City colours as the club’s U-23s defeated West Ham U-23s in the Premier League 2 at the King Power Stadium on Monday night. Leicester City had a mixture of youth and experience along with Iheanacho with the likes of Robert Huth, Yohan Benalouane and new signings Eldin Jakupović and Vicente Iborra featuring. Iheanacho, who was in action for Leicester City in their 2-1 home loss to Chelsea in the EPL on Saturday, opened scoring for the Foxes U-23s. In the 47th minute, the recuperating Iborra doubled Leicester’s lead before George Thomas added the third goal in the 49th minute. With 14 minutes remaining, West Ham pulled a goal back through Toni Martinez to make it 3-1. The win saw Leicester City climb one place to fifth in the Premier League 2 standings with two victories, a draw and a solitary defeat to their name after four outings. National Youth Games: AFN Board Members Want Board Meeting Shifted

As many as eight members of the 14-member board of the  Athletics Federation of Nigeria ( AFN ) have asked for the postponement of the board meeting called for this Wednesday by the president of the federation, Honourable  Ibrahim Gusau , so as to enable them to take proper charge of the athletics event of the on-going  National Youth Games  which begins on Wednesday. WAFU Cup: Ezenwa Voted Best Player In Super Eagles Win Vs Sierra Leone

Ikechukwu Ezenwa was voted Nasco Man of the Match in the home-based Super Eagles’ 2-0 win against Sierra Leone in their knockout fixture of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Cape Coast, Ghana on Monday. Two late goals from Rangers’ Osas Okoro and Peter Eneji of Plateau United in the 83rd and 87th minutes respectively secured the win for the home-based Eagles. Prior to Okoro and Eneji’s goals, Ezenwa who is skipper of the coach Salisu Yusuf-led side, made a series of saves. The saves were especially in the first half to deny the Sierra Leonians from taking the lead. The win means the home-based Eagles will now face Ghana, Guinea and Mali in Group 1 of the WAFU Cup. Their first group game will be against hosts Ghana on Thursday. Ezenwa was instrumental for the Super Eagles during their double header Group B 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers against Cameroon last week.
