Kayode: I’m In No Competition With Anyone For Austrian League Top Scorer Award
Austrian Wien striker, Olanrewaju Kayode, says he
is focusing on his personal and his club's progression, not on a
competition with any other player for the top scorer award in the Austrian top
flight, the Tipico Bundesliga.
The Nigeria international scored twice in Austria Wien's 3-0 home
win over SV Guntamatic Reid on Saturday to take his Tipico Bundesliga goal
tally to 16, now at par with Sturm Graz's Deni Alar.
The speedy striker has scored 22 goals in all competitions for
Austria Wien who are in the second position in the league table with 60 points
from 33, behind Salzburg who are on 72 points from same number of games
played.
With only three rounds of matches remaining in the current Tipico
Bundesliga campaign, all eyes are on Kayode and Sturm Graz's Alar, on 16
goals each in the race for the top scorer award. Remarkably, Graz have a
game in hand which is an advantage for Alar.
There is also Salzburg's Minamino Takumi with 11 goals, as
well as Dovedan Nikola (SCR Altach), Monschein Christoph (Admira Wacker) and
Oberlin Dimitri (Salzburg) with 10 goals apiece, all having an outside
chance of beating Kayode and Alar to the top scorer award.
Kayode however shrugs off a suggestion of competition for the top
scorer award, as far as he is concerned.
"I'm not in competition with anyone," he tells Sky
News Austria.
"I only play my game. At the end of the season everything is
possible, but I am in no competition. This is soccer."
He says of his club's home win over SV Reid: "It was a good
performance. In the last three games, we went out and played good football. We
are tactically well adjusted and the chemistry in the team is right."
With Salzburg looking good to retaining the Austrian Tipico
Bundesliga title and taking the UEFA Champions League slot, Austria Wien are
certain to pick one the three UEFA Europa League tickets with a second place
finish.
