Osimhen Benched As Wolfsburg Win; Nwakali, Ajagun Clash In Holland

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was an unused substitute for Wolfsburg who recorded a 1-0 win over Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig in Thursday’s first leg German Bundesliga promotion and relegation play-off.

The Nigerian teenager, 18, has made two substitute appearances for Andries Jonker’s side since recovering fully from a lenghty spell of injury.
Mario Gomes was the match hero for Wolfsburg. The German international striker struck the only goal from the penalty spot in the 34th minute after the ball struck the hand of Eintracht Braunschweig defender Gustav Valsvik in the box.
In the second half, Wolfsburg had the chance to double the lead in the 50th minute after Daniel Didavi rounded Eintracht Braunschweig goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzic but the German midfielder hit the side netting from a tight angle.
The second leg of this tie will hold on Monday at the home ground of Eintracht Braunschweig. It remains to be seen if Osimhen will play a part in the Super Eagles’ international friendly against Togo on June 1 in Paris.
In the Dutch Eredivisie promotional playoff clash in Holland, Nigerian midfielder and Arsenal loanee Kelechi Nwakali played the whole of MVV Maastricht’s 0-0 draw against Abdul Jeleel Ajagun’s Roda JC Kerkrade.
The second leg is billed to hold on Sunday in Roda.
