Manny Pacquiao lost to Horn but Commentator slams Judges

Manny Pacquiao, Jeff Horn

Australia’s Jeff Horn stunned Filipino Manny Pacquiao in a bloody Brisbane battle to claim a unanimous 12-round decision and win the WBO world welterweight title albeit in very controversial style in front of 50,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The unheralded 29-year-old former schoolteacher, who improved his record to 17-0-1, was awarded the win over the eight-division world champion by scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 but analysts and commentators have since opened a debate on the shady scoring.
In his commentary after the fight, Theodore A. “Teddy” Atlas Jr. said, “There was stupid practice in the states where some idiot decided to give trophies to everybody, just for good effort instead of saying this guy won, that guy lost and you deal with it.
“You learn, It’s part of growing up, it’s part of life… they gave everybody a trophy.
“That’s what they did tonight. They gave a trophy, a win a huge win to Horn the local kid for trying hard.

“You’re not supposed to get it for trying hard. You’re supposed to get it for winning and I thought Pacquiao won the fight if you go by the real rules, the markers of queensbury rules; who lands the cleaner punches.”
