Ajagba, Apochi Stun Opponents On Pro Boxing Debuts In USA

Nigeria’s lone boxing entrant at 2016 Rio Olympics Efe Ajagba started his career in the professional ranks on a bright note in the United States of America on Sunday by knocking out his opponent in just 25 seconds.

Ajagba was however not alone on the night’s bill, another Nigerian fighter, Efetobore Apochi, who also starred on the same bill, also stunned his opponent in the second round of their scheduled six rounder.
Both boxers had left the shores of Nigeria two months ago to campaign in the professional ranks after stellar careers in the amateurs.
Ajagba, a 2015 Africa Games gold medalist in the super heavyweight category, was too good for his opponent on Sunday. Fighting in the heavyweight class, Ajagba succeeded in dominating his opponent Tyrell Herndon with his trademark big rights.
Fighting in Rabobank Theater, Bakersfield, California, Ajagba stunned Herndon who had lost only once in seven bouts with a right hook which sent him to the canvas. The referee was left with no choice than to count the American out on his feet as he failed to recover after the standing count.
Apochi, who campaigns in the cruiserweight category, went the same route by outclassing his opponent on the night, Daniel Mejia Hernandez, who crashed to the canvass in the second round.
Both boxers fight on the bill of Ringstar Sports roster, a California based boxing promotions outfit.
