D’Tigress To Play Raptors BC In Test Match Ahead 2017 Women’s Afrobasket


Nigeria Basketball Federation's Technical Committee has concluded plans to organise a friendly match for the senior national women's basketball team, D'Tigress  against Raptors Basketball Club of Lagos  ahead of the 2017 Afrobasket for women holding in Bamako, Mali from 16th of August.
American Coach Sam Vincent who led the US based squad to the country at the weekend will be banking on the test game to make his final selection for the tournament.
The game will hold by 4pm on Wednesday during their evening training session.
The game against the Division 1 club is the first of the test games lined up for D'Tigress against local club sides before the team’s departure for Bamako on the 16th of August.
Retired Colonel Sam Ahmedu who spoke with RMG SPORTS BLOG on Tuesday said:"The main reason why this test match is necessary for the team is for both Coach Sam Vincent and his technical crew members to see the players in action and know will make the squad to Mali.
"Personally, I am impressed with the training programme of the team and i believe it will be very helpful in Mali," he said
The tournament which holds from August 18 to 27 will see Nigeria confronting Senegal, Egypt, Mozambique, Guinea and Congo in Group B.
Vincent led Nigeria to win the tournament for the first time in 2003 in Mozambique and successfully defended the title with Ayo Bakare as coach in 2005 in Abuja.
