AFCON Fallout: FECAFOOT Terminates Song's Contract

The president of the Federation of the Cameroon Football ( FECAFOOT) Samuel Eto'o has announced the contract termination of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach Rigobert Song.

The former Liverpool defender has been under intensive pressure following the poor outing of the team at the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Eto'o while speaking on a Television programme France 24 confirmed that Song's contract expired on Wednesday and it will not be renewed.

“He has brought a lot to this team but the laws of football being what they are… We have not achieved our objectives, and our executive committee and I do not see ourselves renewing the contract.

"I had the opportunity to discuss it with him.

"I gave our positions and now we have to think about the future while wishing him every success in his future career,” Samuel Eto’o said.

Song as a coach oversaw 23 matches, recording 8 wins, 9 defeats and 6 draws.
