AFCON Champions Ivory Coast Salary Crisis Rocks Team

Despite winning the 2023 African Cup of Nations on home soil, all is still not well with the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire as a salary issue with the team coach Emerson Fae is causing uproar, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

They started the tournament on a struggling note but recovered in time to be crowned the champions after beating Nigeria in the final.

Fae was appointed as an interim coach after Louis Gasset was sacked but Fae did enough to lead the team to the final.

Former France Junior International was later pronounced as the permanent team coach after the tournament.

But to date, Fae is being paid as an assistant coach, and nothing is being done to upgrade him to the salary level of the head coach.

" Fae is currently under contract as an assistant coach with La FIF since his arrival in Ivory Coast. This contract continues until the signing of the new contract as coach-selector.

There is therefore neither void nor anomaly in the current situation", an Ivorian top official said.
