NPFL Round-up: Lobi Stars Pick Away Point, As Sporting Lagos Earns Bragging Rights in South-West Derby

 

Actions continued in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season for match day 24 across the country.

League leaders, Lobi Stars maintained their lead on the log after snatching a 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

John Victor's equaliser from a free kick at the death cancelled out Omaka Fabian's opener for Abia Warriors from the spot in the 70th minute as the Pride of Benue lead the log on 43 points from 24 matches.
In the South-West derby, Sporting Lagos claimed the bragging rights with a comfortable 4-1 win over Remo Stars at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos. 

The visitors reduced the deficit in the 37th minute from an own goal by Salaudeen Aliu while Phillip Odubia added the third and an own goal from Remo Stars.

Elsewhere, controversies marred the game between Enyimba FC and Doma United as the centre referee was reported to have disallowed Chijioke Mbaoma's goal in the 88th minute but later awarded the goal which ensured that the People's Elephant secured the maximum points.

Shooting Stars thrashed Akwa United 3-0 in Ibadan while Kwara United held Rangers International to a barren draw in Enugu.

The only away win was recorded in Yenagoa as Niger Tornadoes defeated Bayelsa United 1-0 while Katsina United denied Heartland FC the victory after snatching a point with a late equaliser from the spot.Junior Lokosa opened the scoring from the spot for the Noisy Lagosians in the 4th minute before Paschal Durugbor extended their lead inside 27 minutes.

Other results include; Rivers United 1-1 Kano Pillars, Sunshine Stars 3-1 Plateau United and Bendel Insurance 2-0 Gombe United.
